Who is God to me? - John 11:39-43

Jesus said, “Remove the stone.” Martha, the sister of the deceased, *said to Him, “Lord, by this time there will be a stench, for he has been dead four days.” Jesus *said to her, “Did I not say to you that if you believe, you will see the glory of God?” So they removed the stone. Then Jesus raised His eyes, and said, “Father, I thank You that You have heard Me. I knew that You always hear Me; but because of the people standing around I said it, so that they may believe that You sent Me.” When He had said these things, He cried out with a loud voice, “Lazarus, come forth.” John 11: 39-43

We often think that if we believe, God will do something. And yes, that does happen. However, that is not the case here. Jesus was going to raise Lazarus from the dead whether Martha or anyone else believed He could do it or not. Jesus was alluding to the receptivity of Martha’s heart. The way in which Jesus performed this miracle left only one explanation of who was responsible for Lazarus rising from the dead. It was the power of God working through His Son.

The big question was whether Martha and the rest of the crowd were willing to attribute the miracle to God and His Son and acknowledge the glory of God resting on His Son.

This work is the Father’s stamp of approval, His seal of authority on the life and work of Christ, not as a prophet, but as His Son.

Do I acknowledge Jesus as Lord and Savior? As God? I don’t want a mediocre life of just going through the motions and hanging around Jesus. I want to follow with my mind and my actions.
